Membership Invitation & Induction
Beginning of Each Semester
The chapter requests from the Registrar a listing of the top Juniors (highest 7.5 percent) and seniors (highest 10 percent) as of the close of the immediately preceding academic term.
Two to Four Weeks Into Semester
Invitations to join Phi Kappa Phi are sent to junior and senior students identified as eligible by the Registrar. Students are asked to respond to the invitation in four to five weeks.
Graduate and professional students in any department who have completed at least 18 semester hours and rank academically in the top 10% of all graduate and professional students at the institution will be nominated to join.
Late February to Early March
The chapter sends out initiation information to those students who have accepted the chapter’s invitation to join (i.e., have completed and submitted the forms included with their letter of invitation and have remitted their initiation fee). At this time details about the initiation ceremony and banquet are provided to the incoming members.
Early April
In April the chapter holds its formal initiation ceremony and banquet, at which time students receive a certificate suitable for framing, their choice of a Phi Kappa Phi pin or charm or tie-tack, additional information from the national organization, and honor cords to be worn at graduation ceremonies in order to identify the wearer as a Phi Kappa Phi member. Students are strongly urged to attend the initiation ceremony. Those who cannot are responsible for picking up their initiation packets at a place designated in the letter acknowledging their acceptance of the invitation to join.
Faculty, professional staff, and alumni may also be eligible for induction, but members of this group are inducted only once a year (spring semester).
Late Fall to Early Spring Semester
During fall semester, the Alumni/Distinguished Merit Selection Committee engages in the process of recommending up to two outstanding alumni for initiation to chapter membership. The Committee’s recommendations are forwarded to the chapter’s Executive Board, which has final approval, by early January.
November to December
To identify faculty and staff candidates for membership, the chapter solicits nominations from faculty members who are active members of Phi Kappa Phi. Nominations and supporting materials are sent to the chair of the Faculty Selection Committee by early January.
January
The Faculty Selection Committee reviews the qualifications of nominees and selects up to ten persons deemed worthy of membership. The Committee sends its recommendations forward to the chapter’s Executive Board.
Letters of invitation are sent to outstanding alumni identified by the Alumni/Distinguished Merit Selection Committee and approved by the chapter’s Executive Board.
Early February
Recommendations of the Faculty Selection Committee are submitted to the chapter’s Executive Board.
Mid-February
Letters of invitation to join Phi Kappa Phi are sent to faculty and staff members identified by the Faculty Selection Committee and approved by the chapter’s Executive Board. Invitees are asked to respond by early March.
Mid-March
Letters acknowledging acceptance of the invitation to join and providing details on the initiation ceremony and banquet are sent to alumni, faculty and staff inductees.
Early April
The chapter holds its formal initiation ceremony and banquet.
